ThePudong Justice Bureau recently released a detailed guide outlininghow foreign nationals can convert their overseas driver’slicenses into valid Chinese driving permits.

浦东司法局最近发布了一份详细的指南，说明外国公民如何将其海外驾照转换为有效的中国驾驶许可证。

Rande,a German citizen holding a valid German driver’s license, isamong those affected by the new guidance. Following a workassignment, he will be residing in China for an extended period. Toease his daily commute, he plans to purchase a car and hopes tocontinue driving while in the country. However, he is unsure whetherhis German license can be used directly in China.

Rande是一名持有有效德国驾照的德国公民，也是受新指南影响的人之一。由于工作安排，他将在中国长期居住。为了方便日常通勤，他计划购买一辆汽车，并希望在中国继续驾驶。然而，他不确定他的德国驾照是否可以直接在中国使用。

Accordingto the new guidelines, foreign driver’s licenses cannot be useddirectly in China. Individuals who wish to drive legally must applyfor a Chinese motor vehicle driving permit.

根据新指南，外国驾照不能直接在中国使用。希望合法驾驶的人必须申请中国机动车驾驶证。

Foreignnationals with residence permits must apply at the vehicleadministration office in the locality where their residence permitwas issued. Those without residence permits but holding valid visasor stay permits should apply at the vehicle administration office inthe jurisdiction of the public security authority that issued theiraccommodation registration form.

持有居留许可的外国公民必须在其居留许可发放地的车辆管理办公室申请。那些没有居留许可但持有有效签证或居留许可的人应在发放其住宿登记表的公安机关管辖范围内的车辆管理办公室申请。

(3)Amilitary medical institution at or above regimental level stationedin Shanghai

3.Applicant’sidentification documents and photocopies

4.Originalforeign driver’s license and photocopies; if the license is notin Chinese, a Chinese translation must also be provided
