When to press and not to press the clutch
The clutch should be pressed when starting, changing gears, and braking in low speed. As the link between the engine and the transmission, if there is no time gap to change gears, there is a risk of damage to the transmission. Therefore, it is necessary to press the clutch when changing gears.
The function of the clutch is:
- To gradually increase the driving force of the car, allowing it to start smoothly;
- To separate the engine and transmission temporarily and change gears;
- To prevent overloading of the transmission system;
- To reduce the impact of the engine's torque and extend the life of the transmission gear.
The working principle of the clutch is:
- When the inner ring is fixed and the outer ring is rotated in the direction of the arrow, the wedge is not locked and the outer ring can rotate freely;
- When the outer ring is rotated in the opposite direction of the arrow, the wedge is locked and the outer ring cannot rotate.
